The Freshlisfe Sprouter allows you to effortlessly maintain a fresh supply of delicious and highly nutritious sprouted vegetables known to contain 10-50 times more vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes than at any other time during their life cycle. An entire spectrum of flavours await as you produce sprouts from radishes, broccoli, cabbage, garlic, sunflower, wheatgrass, buckwheat, mung, alfalfa, sweet pea, and many more.

Personal Note from Kelly @ Better Raw:
I'm very excited to be able to share my personal experience with the Freshlife Automatic Sprouter. I started my first sprouting project just 3 weeks ago having NEVER sprouted anything before, except perhaps some veggies left too long in the fridge. So, equipped with my FL-3000 and carefully chosen organic seeds from Aconbury Sprouts, which consisted of mungbean seeds, alfalfa seeds and wheat berries (aka wheatgrass), I set off on a 4-8 day growing adventure. Fortunately, set up was very simple as there were only a few pieces of equipment that required assembly and the handy instruction booklet ensured I didn't go off track. Once I had my seeds spread evenly across my tray, a reservoir of fresh spring water in the base, it was just a matter of letting things run their course. As easy as that. The instruction booklet that the Freshlife Sprouter comes with includes a really helpful chart listing a wide variety of seeds together with the number of days each take to sprout, so I was well informed about when I could expect to harvest my sprouts at their tastiest and most nutritious. Apart from changing the water every 24 hours (this must be done to maintain freshness and avoid mould issues), my involvement was incredibly minimal, unless you count staring through the barrel when the automatic sprinkler kicked in. But this is great news for those of you who are short on time or maybe aren't very green fingered outdoors but still want to eat the freshest, most nutrient-rich food. Perhaps one thing that impressed me most about the Freshlife Sprouter, was how much I was able to yield from my fully-grown sprouts. 2-3 tablespoons of alfalfa seeds, 2-3 tablespoons of mungbean seeds and about 5 tablespoons of wheat berries gave me a harvest that lasted just over a week between two people. That's enough time to start and grow a completely new batch and never run out of having fresh sprouts in the house - definitely a bonus! Following this experience with the Tribest Freshlife Sprouter, I can confidently say that I am now a proven sprouting convert.

From Latvia with Love | Cream of Mushroom Soup Recipe

Have you ever experienced deja vu? Felt undeniably connected to a place? Were completely and utterly at home even though it's your 'first' time somewhere? Have you ever been lost and safe at the same time? What about disconnected from the outside world, yet more connected internally than ever?

My trip to Latvia brought all of these experiences and more.
    Aya & Isis
I booked a flight to Riga with a single purpose- to visit my soul sister, Aya and her tiny five month old crystal child, Isis. Little did I know, that I was actually embarking on a journey back to my own childhood and the delicious memories within it.

It is the land of my mother tongue, it is the land of Anastasia (or how I would imagine it to look) and it is the place where I lived for 1.5 years from when I was exactly the same age as Isis is now. Since Latvia was part of the Soviet Union in the 80s and my dad's military base was stationed there, he brought me and mum over from the Far East of Russia to be near him.

I can't say that I remembered anything in particular returning 27 years later, but I know that I remembered a lot.

An obvious reminder was of the reason for which I travel. To me, travel is the only thing you can buy, which makes you truly rich. Instantly, another reminder came of how deeply grateful I am to my parents for moving around and showing me the world, showing me that home is not on a chunk of land, but within yourself.

Deliberating on who's ride is more awesome.

    Exploring Riga's old town.

Harvesting organic apples for Aya's Pura Vida raw food bread range.

Aaaand THIS is where we stayed! Aya's wooden hut is in Mersrags, a 1.5 hr drive from Riga.

Beach on one side of Aya's hut, while the woods are on the other.  Paradise? I think YES.

    Pura Vida bread on tap!
There's so much more I want to share with you about my Latvian experience- did you know that Riga has not one but two Raw Food restaurants? We've visited both! We've shopped at the local markets, went wild foraging, [nearly] went swimming in the freeeezing Baltic ocean, collected spring water, ate a bucket full of organic berries picked straight from the bush, stood on our heads in the forrest and rejuvenated all of our cells with every breath of the most crispy clean air...

So much more to share in fact, that I am going to continue this story in another post and include a review of the raw restaurants too! For now I want to leave you with a be-you-tiful recipe, which you will simply lurve, as it was a mushroom foraging result, which I came up with for the chillier season...

    CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP
    Serves 3

    3 cups almond milk
2 cups shiitake mushrooms (about 150g)
    3 stalks celery
    juice of 1 lemon
    ½ red onion
    3 garlic cloves
    1½ tbsp liquid aminos

Leave a couple of shiitake mushrooms for garnish if you like and transfer the rest along with all other ingredients to a blender.
Blend on high, until the soup begins to warm up.
Serve straight after blending or add boiling water to the soup to warm it up at a later stage.
Enjoy with Tanya’s Onion Bread (pg. 26 of Nourished), Crunchy Croutons (pg. 32 of Nourished) or any of Pura Vida's ready made raw food breads.

The Raw Chocolate Company was established in 2006 and makes pure raw chocolate bars, raw chocolate berries and bagged Supreme foods. All their products are vegan, most are Fairtrade and Organic and their factory is renewably powered. Their unique and multi-award nominated organic Raw Chocolate Mulberries, Goji berries and Raisins are a great hit all over the world.

Raw chocolate mulberries and goji berries add vitamins and sensational sweet and sour excitement. The Raw Chocolate Company use organic coconut palm sugar – a long chain sweetener made from the nectar of the coconut flower – which has a butterscotch undertone.

Their raw chocolate bars are sumptuous, silky smooth, vegan, fairtrade and organic. The Raw Chocolate Company add supreme ingredients to their bars to provide extra sensory interest, nutrition and flavour including lucuma which is a wonderfruit from Peru adding a biscuity, malty sweetness.

The cacao and cacao butter is organic and fairtrade. It is better for you, better for the producers, better for the whole world. The Raw Chocolate Company spend a lot longer than most raw chocolate manufacturers grinding the cacao and blending the ingredients. This helps to give you the silky, superfine, sensuous chocolate luxuriance without compromising on ingredients, impact on your body or the environment.

Personal Note from Kelly @ Better Raw:
I had the good fortune of being able to sample many of the tasty raw chocolate treats in this week's fabulous hamper from The Raw Chocolate Company. I love the ethos behind this company and how it's grown from one man's vision and creative prowess to a growing tribe of chocolate enthusiasts who love what they do. It's still a very humble company of about 15 people which is how I believe they pour the highest quality into creating product masterpieces that taste personal and not factory-made. As you might expect from a company with a strong ethical and moral centre, a unique passion is infused into the taste and very essence of the chocolate itself. I have enjoyed carrying around the chocolate goji berries and mulberries as they make such satisfying snacks on the go. I'm also a big fan of their cacao powder which regularly features in my banana smoothies when I'm in an indulgent mood. However, the raw chocolate bars were a real sensory journey - with flavours such as orange, mint, vanoffe and goji berry and orange combined (this won the Great Taste 2013 award) - I have to doff my cap to this company. They really know their flavours and how to get it just right. I don't think you can ask more from a company than that.

My Hummus Confessions + Picnic & Punting Highlights

I have a little confession to make...
For the past three years I have been fooling myself by trying to fool you, that raw chickpea hummus can be just as delicious as the cooked one.

I tried so hard to make this a reality, but at the end of the day- everyone will try my recipe, taste it, feel glad that they now know how to do it and then go off to the supermarket to buy their cooked one in a tub again.

Do you know why that is?
Answer: When you apply heat to raw living carbohydrates in food and apply it for long enough, those carbs turn into sugars. So by cooking our nutrient packed sprouted chickpeas, we are actually destroying a heap of goodness and turning them into a sweet by-product. Sugar is of course addictive, so when you try anything else, it simply doesn't compare and the voice of our tastebuds will always be louder than the voice of our intellect.

That's exactly why I always do my best to make my raw recipes taste amazing. I've even revealed my secret of adding dates to raw foods in my Amazon #1 Bestselling DVD Raw Food 101, in order to make a tastier hummus. The result was pretty good, but even I didn't hurry to make it myself. And there is something wrong with that picture. So I went on a quest to perfect my recipe and soon discovered that the secret is not in making raw chickpeas taste better, it was in replacing them with something else altogether!

I can't tell you what a revelation this was! And honestly, I think that if you enjoy a hummus in a tub, you will looooove this one. I do! Here you go...

    SUNDRIED TOMATO COURGETTE HUMMUS

    3 courgettes, chopped
    1 cup sunflower seeds, soaked
    1 cup sundried tomatoes, soaked
    ½ cup raw sesame seeds
    ½ cup raw tahini
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
    juice of 2 lemons
    2 tsp cumin
optional: ½ tsp Himalayan salt, only if tomatoes weren’t preserved in salt

Put all ingredients in a high powered blender and blend to a rich consistency.

    ----------------------------------------

Doesn't it look and sound divine? It is a must-try, I tell you. Do it, do it! Everyone on my and Polly's Picnic & Punting event last weekend gave rave reviews to my hummus and all the other treats we made for the day...

Mocktails on arrival, curried flax crackers, raw sundried tomato hummus, summer guacamole, creamy cheesy dip, pizza, wraps with sunflower seed pate and fresh seasonal veggies and sprouts, marinated and pesto stuffed mushrooms, chocolate brownie bites, special indulgent cake, strawberries and cream, plus green elixirs. - See more at: http://www.betterraw.com/p/teaching.html

We were so fortunate to have the beautiful and shining Samjhana Moon of www.goddessportraiture.co.uk to capture our day! Here are just a few highlights...
